Perhaps it shouldn't be any great surprise that Apple released a Java update for Snow Leopard while neglecting to release a Safari update.
Come to think of it, Apple did something similar with Leopard, releasing its final security update for Leopard's version of Safari in July while releasing a Leopard-specific security update to disable outdated and vulnerable versions of Flash Player in May Nevertheless, Apple's security update policy is still rather confusing. It would be nice if Apple were to publish a clear written policy showing exactly how long its customers could expect to get security updates for any given product. By comparison, Microsoft lists clear lifecycle end dates for each version of its operating system and other products.
Would be nice for Apple to have an actual public policy on this. Follow IntegoSecurity.

And downloading something and entering their password seems trivial to them. I would just like to be aware of what to look for and whats currently out there; of course one cannot predict the future. I have read the release notes but not getting a clear picture of any security related fixes that may have been done. Any idea if the update affects the above guide and steps you describe?

To uninstall the JDK, you must have Administrator privileges and execute the remove command either as root or by using the sudo 8 tool. This directory is part of the system software and any changes will be reset by Apple the next time you perform an update of the OS.
